Registering for future needs?

I know we are all set for infant necessities in terms of what we already have and what we registered for, but I have been wondering, do people usually register for items that the child won't use until they are a little older? I'm thinking like sippy cups, toddler spoons, things along those lines. I don't have anything like that on my registry because honestly I hadn't thought about it until now and I don't know if that's common or not.
