Spotting & cramping and wound up being OK?

Just a question for all of you mamas later in your pregnancy-

Did any of you have spotting AND cramping earlier in your pregnancy that wound up being nothing?

I have been cramping since Saturday, they seem to be getting better. It started out as sharp cramps every so often, and now feels more like period cramps. But I started light brownish spotting yesterday, it's pretty light. I really only have it when I wipe.

Went to OBGYN for blood test to test levels and go back again tomorrow to see if they doubled.

The waiting is terrible though, and I'm just really nervous it's not going to work out. 

I'm about 4.5 weeks along.

From everything I've read though, having both cramping and spotting means it's not going to be a good outcome.
