Car seats

FTM here and I have a question on car seats...did most of you have two? or just one? 

 My SIL had one from when they were foster parents which doesn't expire until 2015 and was never used, basically new without the box because she threw it away before she gave it to us.  I also registered for one that comes with a stroller (travel system)....I figured one could be their 'everyday' car seat/carrier that would stay in the car we will drive most after they are born...the one my SIL gave us could be our 'extra' leave with Grandma and Grandpa/take in and out of cars we may or may not drive everyday seat....

 DH is having a hard time seeing the rational of both since his sisters only had one each...both stay at home moms who only drove one car and didn't have to worry about daycare or having to take a different vehicle to work because of what was going on that day....i.e. sometimes I have to have my truck to do my job....
