This is from Oct13. OP is visiting family in TX, but is living in another country (overseas). Family wants to give her a shower while she is visiting. She asked for suggestions of "small things" to register for that she can bring back in a suitcase.

Almost everyone is telling her to put 'Gift cards please' on the invitation. She's said that normal gift cards won't work due to currency differences, and the fact that most stores in the US don't exist where she is.

So now people are telling her to ask her family for AmEx or Visa gift cards.

It sounds like the typical suggestion of just taking what you get and returning for store credit wouldn't work in this situation, but asking for specific gift cards on the invitation seems wrong to me. I thought some of you ladies might be able to give her better advice.
