Which maternity clothes are really necessary?

I know we probably can't all relate since we may be at different points of pregnancy during different seasons, but I am curious if anyone has any thoughts/input as to what materinty clothing items really are necessary...

For example, I purchased maternity stretch pants and capris...I currently (at 20 weeks) am wearing regular stretch pants...but down the road, will the maternity pairs be better?

I have been using a bellaband but honestly find it a bit cumbersome and maternity pants make for a much smoother appearance.  

Any thoughts?  Has anyone purchased anything they have found to be unnecessary or purchased something they absolutely could not do without?
