Tens Unit use...

Does anyone know in general what the Drs stance is on using a Tens Unit for back pain or foot pain during pregnancy?? I just got my DH an awesome new tens unit at an Expo show today and it came with a pair of "slippers" to attach the unit to for your feet, but the guy said they weren't supposed to let pregnant women use it, but I'm not sure whether that's just their policy for the shows for liability, or if there's any safety issues.

Anyone know or use one or did in past pregnancies? TIA!!
