A wtf pack n play question... long

Ok, FTM question here.  I've been checking out playards/pack n plays that have bassinets, changing tables, and something called a "napper" built into them.  The idea sounds great, but for a while I thought the "napper" and bassinet were the same thing.  They ARE different, correct?  Also, is the napper actually safe?  I know newborns aren't particularly mobile, but those nappers look REALLY shallow and easily exited by some earnest wiggling.  Looking at pictures, the bassinet part appears to be something of a shelf under the changing table and napper.  Can one put the baby in the bassinet and leave the changing table part in place?  Who has used these?  Help!!
