18 Week Anatomy Scan- Advice

I scheduled my 18 week anatomy scan as soon as I could, but I'm having second thoughts.  A healthy baby is my number one priority, but as many of you know, finding out the gender is incredibly exciting and can assist with the maternal nesting instinct.  My mom is a cake designer, and we will be cutting into a gender-reveal cake at our March family birthday party (many March birthdays in my family).

Is 18 weeks too soon?  What experiences have you had with 18 week anatomy scans?

I'll be calling the doctor's office on Monday, but just wanted some advice.
