How to know everything is ok?

So My midwife told me I won't have my first ultrasound until 18 weeks. They don't see a reason to... We have heard the heartbeat. This bothers me in a way! I'd really like to see my baby before then. I am wondering if because I don't get to see the baby til then, how do I know everything is okay, Just because we have heard the heartbeat? I'm 12 w 2 d.
