contractions

So my dr. told me to call him if my water breaks or if i have contractions that last for more then two hours.

my question is did you know when your contractions started? what if you think it's just false labor & it's not. Like how will i know what contraction to start timing?

since im a FTM and don't really know what they feel like, people say your belly gets hard all over. do you just time how long your belly is hard for? & then wait & see when the next one is & time that? & the time in between them?

What are you going to use to time them?
