First Dr. Appointment

I called my OBGYN office this morning to make an appointment after getting my digital BFP this weekend (after a bunch of squinty lines Thursday/Friday).

They said they usually see you at 8-10 weeks for the first appointment so I am scheduled for October 15.  Everyone on here seems to be getting ultrasounds and blood work done way before then.  Is it normal to wait this long before going in?

Am I missing something?
