Confused about low progesterone :/

Hello all.. I'm a little confused. I was told my progesterone was low (Which freaks me out bc I've had a m/c before) and they are starting me on supplements. I am to take them vaginally. I don't understand bc what I've read on progesterone supplements it induces a period. Why would I take it. Also my HCG was 2950 at 5 weeks 3 days. Anyone know if that is good? Thanks!!!!
