C-Section Anasthetic Question (from a FTM)

At my last apointment, my doctor mentioned that there was a possibility that I would need a C-Section (there's always a possibility).    He then asked if I had a preference to be awake or asleep for it, because I have an extensively fun medical history, and there is a strong possibility that I'd not be able to take the spinal shot, and may have complications to the epidural.   He indicated to me that he would prefer me to be asleep...

My question is, has anyone here had a C-Section while being asleep?   And if so, what was your experience with it?  I'm trying to find a bright spot in the possibility of being asleep while my baby is born....
