grunting, fussy newborn bearing down....

My 2 1/2 week old is exclusively breastfed, but as of the last 4 days he has been extremely fussy, grunting and bearing down really hard.  He poops 3-6 times a day.  His poop is not green.  He always finishes the first breast before I offer the second.  In other words, I can't figure out a reason for his fussiness.  He sleeps like an angel and doesn't seem that gassy (farting).  It just seems like lately whenever he is awake he is fussy.  I guess I am just venting but if anyone has any suggestions or advice I am all ears! Could this just be a growth spurt???
