How far is too far to drive for the birth?

I'm in the suburbs and I'm looking at a couple of places for the birth---my favorite is a 40 minute drive without traffic. There's a closer one, but if for some reason I don't like them at my first visit or they're overbooked, I'm wondering if it's reasonable to drive that far?

 A third option is finding a midwife who comes to you, but with an internet search I only found one in our area, so that's not a sure thing.

 How far have you/are you driving?

 (A side note for appointments---the first choice far away option is not as far from husband's work, and I work from home. So I could hang out at the nearest library/coffee shop on appointment days and that probably wouldn't be too bad).
