Encouragement needed - scabbed/cracked

My DD is 8 days old and when my milk came in, my nipples got cracked and scabbed.  I went to my LC on Wed who corrected her latch.  She thought that thinks would heal in 24-48 hours and it was a pretty minor problem.  Things were looking better yesterday, still bruised, though the wounds were closing.  At the 2am feeding, I"m not sure what happened, but I now have a scab pretty much over my whole right side and some of my left.  I'm in a lot of pain and really frustrated.  I feel like I know what to do, and it isn't helping.  I was sobbing this morning because I dread every time she wants to eat and it is getting hard for me to bring myself to have her latch.  

Has anyone been through this?  Does it get better?  I'd like to avoid shields/pumping if possible.  I EPed with my first DS for 4 months because he was a lazy eater.  I'm so sad that this isn't working.
