Breastfeeding

When LO arrived were you seperated?

I went to hospital tour/birth class Saturday (my first is due in August) and I really want to try my hardest to be as successful as possible at BF.  They told us that some mothers request minute LO is born to have LO on chest immediately and to keep them there during APGAR, etc.

In other words, having no seperation (unless needed medical attention) from LO and mother at the point of delivery for the first hour to help with bonding/introduction to breasts, etc.  Obviously after that, they'll take LO for bath and other things then bring right back to mother to stay in room for the rest of the time, etc.

I was wondering did any of you do this?  Do you think it has helped?  What do you suggest?
