Which is better to regulate overnight supply?

I am in terrible pain overnight due to oversupply.  LO wakes every 2-4 hours to BF, I am just not sure at this point if I should be using both breasts or just emptying one.  She can be satisfied with just one and this is what we do during the day.   Which would be better to signal to my crazy body that we are making more than enough?

I wanted to start building a freezer stash but have stopped pumping bc of the oversupply.  I also thought about using cold compresses after BF overnight and in AM.  Good idea?  Bad idea?  Don't want to screw up my daytime supply....
