Car Seat Installation

We just went to have our car seats inspected and learned something interesting.  Although my husband and I thought that using both the latch system AND seatbelt system to hold the seat would be safest (and this is what two of my friends said that they did), we learned otherwise.  The police officers who inspected the seats said that you should only use one of these systems as the seat should be able to move a little bit (no more than an inch) in the event of an accident to help absorb some of the impact.  The officers said that using both systems generally does not allow the seat to move in this manner, which could potentially cause harm to your baby in the event of accident. 

As we had not seen anything about whether or not to use both systems, I thought I would pass along this info.  Also, they showed us that the user manual for our cars had information in it about the latch system and how it is suggested that a car seat be installed in each vehicle (which latches to use).
