avoiding mastitis?!?

Does anyone have any suggestions for me to avoid mastitis? I recently ended breast feeding for unavoidable circumstances L .  I was able to slowly stop and slowly introduce formula. When I stopped I was down to feeding him off of each breast one a day. It?s been 2 heartbreaking days now and my right breast feels like a rock and it?s a lil painful. I don?t want to get an infection but I was told if I pump even a little, to relieve pressure it will take way longer for my milk to dry completely.  What would u suggest? TIA
