Route canal while pregnant???

My dentist recommended that I try to wait until after my pregnancy to get work done on one of my teeth which now needs a route canal. I have a fear of dentist and sometimes have panic attacks while in the chair. Normally I take seditive medication before I go in for appointments which is probably why my dentist recommended waiting. Well,  I waited and now i have bouts of pain that lasts for days. I am super nervous and will be asking DR about this at my tomorrow appt. Just wondering if anyone else had work done this late in pregnancy????
