Can you or your DH see baby sucking his/her thumb from the outside?

My DH's co-worker told him he can see his LO sucking his thumb when looking at his wife's belly.  He said something about seeing rapid movement that comes from sucking.

This doesn't seem possible to me.  Has anyone heard of or experienced this??????
