NPR: Paying "babysitter"

For our a/s next week we've asked a friend of ours to watch DD - probably 2 hours at most. We rarely have anyone besides family watch her.

I'm wondering if we should pay him? Give him a gift card? Beer?

What do you guys do when a friend watches your child? (They don't have kids so we can't reciprocate the babysitting)
