How do you know what to get??

We haven't registered yet but are looking into doing it soon. I've been looking online at different strollers, car seats, carriers, etc and there are sooo many options! How do you decide? I've read the reviews on most of them but it seems like with almost every item you find people that love it and think it's the best thing they ever bought and others that had issues? It's our first baby, so like so many other FTM I'm sure, we want to get the best for our LO. Any suggestions/recommendations?? I'd love any input on products you totally love or could do without
