Earliest you can leave hospital after delivery?

Assuming a routine vaginal delivery (without complications), how soon can you leave the hospital?

- This is assuming a standard U.S. hospital setting.  

- My insurance covers up to 48 hours hospital stay time post delivery.  

- I know that some women want to stay as long as possible to get newborn assistance from nurses, breastfeeding/lactation advice, etc., but assuming I just want to get back to the comfort of my own home, what is the earliest they usually let mother & baby leave?
