doctor's travel restrictions

I have a wedding a few hours away 3 weeks before my due date. I asked my doctor if I can go and he said absolutely not and that he doesn't want women traveling over 2 hours anytime after week 36. Is this normal? What are your thoughts. I'm a FTM and I always assumed that most FTMs typically go beyond their due date but I'm sure there are always exceptions.
