What is the difference between a "Meet and Greet" and a "Shower"?

I got an invite to a "meet and greet". It specifically says "we thought we'd do something different so are holding a meet and greet on..."

I had initially thought this meant no presents. There is no mention of a registry. But at the bottom of the invite it says "instead of a card please bring a children's book with a personal note written inside".

Soooo...do I get a gift? Do I just get a book?
