How were you told to time contractions?

I know some of you hear some sort of number rule but I can't remember what it is. The last time I went into labor I couldn't tell one contraction apart from the next, and with my first birth I thought I was 6 minutes apart when I was actually 3.

I just don't "get it", lol. I also suck at using contraction master, hahaha.
