Registry question- no shower, overseas

So I am pregnant and due in July while living overseas in France with my husband and I don't know what to do about registering (if at all). We just moved here in September and don't know a lot of people, I'd be shocked if anyone threw me a shower (it is also not really a thing here).  However, my MIL thinks we should register at a couple of French baby sites (babiesrus.fr, amazon.fr for example) so that family and friends in the States can buy us presents online if they want to. This would also save people the (substantial) cost of shipping items from the US. We definitely would appreciate any help we got but I feel a little weird registering when we're not having a shower. I definitely would not volunteer any registry information or make any kind of public announcement but is it to presumptuous to register at all? Any advice or personal experiences appreciated.
