Gender ultrasound

I went today for my 20 week ultrasound and after much thought, we decided to find out the gender. Unfortunately, the tech was unable to determine what we are having, so we left disappointed. I've been told that they only order another ultrasound if there is an issue, and since this baby is healthy, it looks like we may have to wait until the baby is born to find out the sex. Has anyone found a way to get an ultrasound done on their own without spending a ton of money?
