What is the best way to book a Disney vacation?

We have been to Disney before, it was long before we were even married. I am looking now, and for us to go with my MIL, it would be over $1100 just for three days park admission! Before tax! Yikes. Especially when I remember from last time the rides were only running 5 hours out of the day :-( We learned the hard way when we left for a few hours in the afternoon and came back around 5:00 to find the rides were shut down for the day.
