Anyone else's LO hate being swaddled?

Our little guy was swaddled for every nap/bed time for the first 2 weeks...either by using a blanket (naps) or the halo swaddler for night time.  Then all of a sudden he has started pitching a fit when I try to restrict him with it.  He likes to sleep with his arms over his head, so I tried swaddling but leaving his arms free.  Well, we're having issues with him falling asleep - he just kicks and jerks all over and screams- so I got rid of the swaddling altogether, but I keep reading that swaddling is supposed to help them sleep. 

So, did any one else's LO just refuse the swaddle, but still get to sleep OK?
