When do you stop waking for feedings?

My 3 week old is bf and supplement with formula as I don't produce enough on my own. We think he gets about announce from me each feeding and we've been giving him1.5 oz formula each time too. At our 2 week he was back to birth weight and doctor said it was ok to et him go longer stretches without waking, assuming he is getting more during the day. We feed him whenever he wakes up, which is abut every 3-4 hours during the day, 4-4.5 at night, so he is only eating 6-8 times per day, depending. Is this enough? Should I still be waking him every 3 during the day?
