I don't get it

Flame away, but I really don't understand the thinking behind announcing pregnancy, gender or name into a theatrical production.  Maybe I'm just a boring Plain Jane but what's wrong with just telling people you are pregnant, are having a boy or a girl and the name.   The way I see it you are sharing happy news, not directing a Broadway show.
