confused about bleeding

I'm sure I should just call the doctor but... I generally feel ok. In fact, everyone who sees me can't believe I had a baby 3 weeks ago.

I had very heavy bleeding for a week, then it slowed down, and basically went from red to brown to yellowish and stayed yellowish for a couple of days. Then yesterday, I started bleeding again. It's not heavy at all and there are small clots, no cramps. 

What worries me is that some sites/books say you shouldn't have bright red blood after 7 days and then other things I read say you could bleed for a month. 

Did anyone else experience something similar? Am I just moving around too much? (I just can't see calling my dr for blood that is so minimal it wouldn't even soak a panty liner).
