Still afraid to clip his nails!

I really need to clip DS nails... I put mittens on him all the time bc he tears up his poor face but he is learning about his hands right now and his nails are in need of a trim.  My sister in law normally does this for me.  The first time we tried we clips part of his finger (nothing horrible but enough to make him cry).  Last night SIL was going to do it but we forgot before we left and now I fear I have to do it.  I know I need to learn to do it better.  Poor guy needs to learn about his hands lol. Here goes nothing
