FTM: Humidifier Question

I remember my mom had one for me when I was little. I can't for the life of me remember what it helps with. My DD has been waking up the past couple mornings with head congestion (no fever and doesn't seem unusually cranky or anything) and my instincts are telling to run out and by a humidfier for her room.

Does this sound right? If so, any recommendations on a brand?
