Christmas card question

Every year I generally get a big Christmas card and then put a photo card inside. This year (as I posted on the Nest), I haven't found any cards I love, so I'm thinking of just doing the photo cards, even having Shutterfly (or whoever I go with), send them out.

Any plus or minus to doing this? Have any of you done it? And is it reliable (like them shipping it out on time etc)? Thanks!
