Dr advice for constipation.. odd

My babys doctor suggested to give her 1-3 oz of plain water or 1-3 oz of pear juice. I tried the pear juice because I have heard bad things about giving a baby plain water (water intoxication.) He also suggested giving a couple tablespoons of light Karo syrup.. which I have also heard babies should not have. Anyways... If your LO has had constipation what did his or her doctor suggest?
