Pet turtle question

DH and I got a turtle about 6 months ago. I know that they can carry salmonella, even if they test negative, they may still have it. (the salmonella may not have been being excreted that day.)

I've heard that it's recommended to get rid of reptiles prior to babies coming into the home, because of the salmonella potential. DH and I let our turtle out almost every day to let him get some exercise.

Would you:

a. Get rid of the turtle asap (before baby comes home)

b. Get rid of the turtle when baby starts to become more mobile

c. Not get rid of the turtle
