shopping question

I know people post this sort of question all the time, but how much baby-clothes purchasing are you ladies doing?  I read lots of things saying not to bother buying ANY until after you've had a shower because people will give you tons of clothes, and I don't want to go crazy or spend too much money, but I'm starting to feel very unprepared!  I also have the urge to go buy summer stuff on sale for next summer, but I know that sizes run so different, and who knows if we'll have a big chubby baby or a petite baby?  Just curious what you all are doing.
