need a ped?

The earlier post about interviewing pediatricians sparked this thought for me.  How important is it to have a pediatrician vs. a family practitioner?  I am looking for a new family practice for myself now anyway, but I am a first time mom and am just wondering what other people have done for healthcare.

 Do you use a pediatrician or a family practice for your children?  What is the advantage of having a ped?

 I would appreciate any thoughts on this--experienced or not.
