Back to the drawing board for the nursery (long)

Our guest room has a medium blue carpet in it and we had decided to just keep it and plan a gender neutral nursery around that...light gray/silver walls, keep the trim as is (wood), accent with bright orange/green/turquoise.  Our dressers are a dark wood and the crib (a hand-me-down from my sister) is a lighter wood.  A little mismatched but it was going to work.

MIL came over yesterday to help DH prime the room and offered to buy new carpet (have I mentioned how much I love her?)  She bought DDs dresser for her nursery but since we don't need one for LO2, the carpet would be the "big" purchase for him/her. 

Now I'm torn on how to decorate.  I thought maybe we could get a darker gray carpet and stick with our original plans but I think we will now paint the trim white like the ceiling and I'm not sure how the wood furniture will look.
