NBR: wall shelving

In an effort to get all of our crap out of my former home office so it can be a nursery, DH and I are buying living room shelving. We have a wall there that's grossly underused. The plan is to mount shorter floating shelves to the left of the TV and 2 or 3 long ones above the TV. The TV is 42 inches and sitting on and expresso wood and glass stand. Why am I telling you this? Because I need to know whether the shelves should be black/brown to match the TV stand or white to match the wall. The other colors in the room are gray and various shades of blue/green. I'm hopeless at decorating. Help!
