Hey - I just noticed your reply about what I said about the sign language.  I do feel the same as you.  That sign language either will help speed up verbal language or it will do nothing (besides allow your kid some way to communicate and therefore hopefully decrease frustration). 

DH was concerned that teaching signs would make dd not want to bother saying words.  But that is because he only really knows a handful of kids under 3/4 yrs old.  And of course the 1 being our nephew who was very delayed in speech, but was able to do several signs.  The other kids that did talk on time, I know at least one of them (my cousin's son) also did signs, but it just doesn't stick out as much because he also talked.
