Terrible 2s at 14 months

We have just started dealing with tantrums lately... our son will stomp his feet, sometimes walk backwards (what is that about?!?) and bang his head into things, or head-butt, and even started hitting or smacking with his hands. He throws fits over some of the silliest things and sometimes I'm not in the mood.

 What's the best way to go about these fits when I'm not feeling my calmest?
