Beginner CD Questions

So, I've read a few websites, etc and watched the Cloth Diapering 101 on Youtube. I still feel very overwhelmed with the whole CD process, what to buy, what brands, how many, etc.

I think I'd like to do mainly prefolds with covers, and also get a few contoured and fitteds.

Can anyone recommend their fav brands? Also, how many prefolds should I get and how many covers?
