acid reflux anyone?

I have it, during my last pregnancy I was on prevacid, and my on tools me to avoid it for the first twelve weeks then I was fine to take it. Now I'm on medium and on said I could take it after 8 weeks.  Now Tums suck, I hate them, i've had about a dozen today and still have heartburn and I've only been off my meds since Friday I'd love to know if there may be another another safer remedy or medication you may have been prescribed for unbearable heartburn? TIA!
