How many hours does your LO sleep in a day?

My LO is just 9 days old and he is sometimes sleeping more than 16 hours a day.  He eats every 2 1/2-3 (day and night) hours but will sometimes fall right back asleep, even if I try to keep him awake for a little bit to interact with him.

 Anyone else experience?
