NBR - Boating With a Baby

We bought a boat after our son was a few years old so he was already big enough to go boating with us. My question is when is a good age to let your baby on the boat for the first time? My husband doesn't think it's a big deal to take him on the boat right away but I told him absolutely not! I'm thinking next summer, when he is one year old, will be okay bc he'll fit in a life jacket. What do you all think?
